Who is the school physician? Dr. Arthur Giuliano is the school physician. He is located at 132 Central St. in Foxboro. His phone number is 508-543-6306.
When does my child require a physical exam? Massachusetts state law requires that every student is to have a periodic physical exam. In the Foxboro Public Schools, physical exams take place within one year of students entering preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 4,7, and 11. If your child is to take part in school athletics, a yearly physical is required.
What immunizations are required for my elementary school-age child? The following immunizations, mandated by the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health, are required of all students entering the Foxboro Public Schools: DPT - 5 doses Polio - 4 doses MMR - 2 doses (1st dose after 12 months) Hep B - 3 doses Varicella - 2 doses of the vaccine, or a physician certified history of chicken pox disease.
Does my child need vision screening before entering kindergarten? Yes,upon entering kindergarten, or within 30 days of the start of the school year, the parent or guardian of each child shall present to the school nurse certification that the child has passed a vision screening within the previous 12 months. The primary care provider should conduct this screening. *This protocol requires visual acuity testing for both eyes as well as stereopsis Testing.
Does my child need to have a lead screening before entering school? Yes, per the Mass. Dept. of Public Health, children are required to have a lead screening before entering kindergarten.
How does the Burrell School handle emergencies? The Burrell School nurse position is full-time. Should a medical emergency/crisis occur, the Burrell school has a team of six staff members trained in CPR/AED and First aid. Basic guidelines for emergency medical procedure are posted throughout the school. The cafeteria staff has also been trained in the Heimlich maneuver and Epi-pen administration.
Is health insurance coverage available for those of us without coverage?
