Burrell Families: To make sure all the students and staff are safe and healthy at the Burrell School, there are a few guidelines I ask you to follow; If your child is not feeling well, please do not send him/her to school. This includes: a fever of 100 or more in the last 24 hours, lice/nits, an unexplained rash, conjunctivitis or 'pink eye', diarrhea or vomiting or if the child doesn't seem like they will make it through the day. If your child has started antibiotics, he/she must be on the medication at least 24 hours and be fever free before returning to school. There is a strict medication policy for dispensing medicine in school. If your child requires medicine in school, please ask the school nurse for the appropriate forms. An adult must bring the medicine to school. Medicine should be in a pharmacy labeled container. No child should be carrying any medicine, including any ointments, in school. If possible, please provide us with a photograph of your child, which will be attached to the medicine. Cough drops may be sent to school, but I will keep them in the nurse's room. Please send in a note if you would like cough drops dispensed to your child. As the seasons change, please remember to dress your child appropriately for the outdoor recess play. Hats, gloves, mittens, boots, etc. are needed for cold, snowy days. Unless it is VERY inclement, the children go out for recess. Please make sure your child wears sneakers on PE days. This is for safety as well as to ensure a lot of fun! Flip-flops break easily and are difficult to repair. Vision and hearing screenings are done in the fall for grades 1 to 4. You will be notified if your child does NOT pass. Anytime during the school year you feel your child is having a vision or hearing difficulty, contact the school nurse and she can perform another screening. Height and weight screenings are done in January and February. Letters are not sent out informing parents of their child's weight and BMI as in the past. This information is kept confidential; if you wish to know you can call your school nurse and she will share the information with you. Thank you and I wish you all a healthy school year!!!
